Graeme Press - Musical Director

I believe we need to keep singing the Christmas songs of joy and peace and living the Christmas spirit. For 40 years, Woolworths Carols in the Domain has helped us do just that in a meaningful and significant way. There is something magical that occurs every December, as we gather outdoors for this exciting annual event.

We sing the well-known songs, we share with family and friends and it's a time to reflect and bring hope for the next year.

I’m a Christmas person. It’s my favourite time of year. I love the music; I love the food, I love the celebrations, I love the gift giving and I even love the shopping! On top of this list is the amazing personal privilege … to work with the gifted creative production team, to arrange the music, rehearse and conduct the orchestra, choirs and the artists in creating this exquisite event. An event that is centred on the wonderful music and joy of the season.

I am so glad we are in the iconic Domain, celebrating 40 years of sharing the Christmas spirit together. It’s all best wrapped up with the quote from Buddy in the movie Elf, 'The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.’

There is a Christmas song sung by the psychedelic rock band “Flaming Lips” that says:
Oh, if I could stop time
It would be a frozen moment just around Christmas
When all of mankind reveals its truest potential

I agree, if I could stop time it would be on that magical ‘Carols’ Saturday in December.

Graeme's reputation as a director, arranger and visionary extends across the globe, leading to many invitations to lead vocal, orchestral and instrumental concerts, workshops or both.”
