Shubshri Kandiah


Shubshri Kandiah is currently starring as 'Belle in Disney's 'Beauty and the Beast the Musical'. The musical is playing in Sydney until the end of January and is then headed to Melbourne and Brisbane.

Shubshri launched her professional career playing the role of Princess Jasmine in the national and international tour of Aladdin.

In 2022-23, she played the lead role of Ella in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (Opera Australia) to critical acclaim.

Prior to this, after an international search in late 2021, Shubshri was cast in the central role of Maryam in Why? The Musical for Expo 2020 in Dubai, created and directed by award-winning filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, with music composed by Academy Award-winning film composer A.R. Rahman.


Shubshri played the role of Cinderella in Into The Woods (Belvoir St Theatre).

Past theatrical credits include: Brianna in the national tour of Fangirls (Belvoir St Theatre); Ismene in Antigone (Queensland Theatre) and The Pearlfishers (Opera Queensland).


As a Brisbane based performer, she has appeared many times as a featured artist with the Queensland Pops Orchestra, notably the 2019 NYE Variety Gala; in Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s 2017 Spirit of Christmas and An Evening with Liz Callaway, performing a duet with Liz herself. She performed the National Anthem at the 2021 NRL State of Origin in Brisbane.

Shubshri is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University, holding a Bachelor of Musical Theatre.
